Judge Lara Montecalvo received her commission on September 20, 2022, after being nominated by President Biden to fill the seat vacated following the assumption of senior status by Judge O. Rogeriee Thompson.
Judge Montecalvo served for over fifteen years as an assistant public defender in the Rhode Island Public Defender’s Office and in 2020 became the Rhode Island Public Defender, a role she held until her appointment to the First Circuit. She is a graduate of Boston College Law School and Swarthmore College.
